Nearly half of online gambling companies operate illegally
“The restrictive provisions of the Polish Gambling Act increase the attractiveness of the offer of illegal operators,” stresses Katarzyna Mikołajczyk, president of the Graj Legalnie Association. The EY report shows that in Poland the average effective tax rate in 2010-2019 was around 33 percent of revenue, and last year it was close to 40 percent. This discourages foreign operators from officially entering the Polish market and applying for a domestic license. Some of them choose to operate in the shadow economy, which accounts for almost half of the online gambling market.”
